DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY
HISTORY
Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Physiology was established in 1993 to undertake education and training, research and laboratory services, and started its work in Güneş Building in Denizli. While continuing its activities in the Morphology Building and Experimental Animals Research Unit, the Faculty of Medicine moved to new education blocks in 2011 and has been continuing its education and research activities in this building since then. In 2014, the Department of Sports Physiology was established under Physiology Department.
Z. Melek BOR KÜÇÜKATAY is the head of Physiology Department and Sports Physiology Discipline by 2021. Physiology department continues its research, education and application activities with 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 3 Research Assistants who have completed their PhD, 4 Specialization students, 4 Doctoral students, 1 Master's students.
ABOUT US
"Physiology", consisting the combination of the Greek words "Physis" nature and "logos" science, may be expressed as “Science of nature” or “Science of function”. Physiology, with its broad definition, is the science that examines the functions of the structures and organs that make up living things, from the molecular level to the levels of cells, tissues, organs, systems and organisms, their functional relationships, and the mechanisms of these functions. It is important to emphasize that the highest award in physiology is the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to highlight the fundamental role of physiology among branches of science. As of 2021, our department continues its activities with 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 3 Research Assistants who have completed their PhD, 4 Specialization students, 4 Doctoral students, 1 Master's student.
Our department provides theoretical and practical training on Physiology at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels to the students of Faculty of Medicine, Faculties of Dentistry and Health Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences, School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and Vocational School of Health Services. In addition, contributions are made to neuroscience doctorate and stem cell and hand rehabilitation master programs.
In the Physiology Department, studies are carried out in the fields of neurophysiology, hemorheology, hemodynamics, oxidative stress, DNA damage, exercise, obesity, metabolism, polyphenols, trace elements and experimental animal models. In addition to the general physiology laboratory, many projects are carried out in cell culture, hemorheology, molecular physiology (gene polymorphism, Western Blot and Commet analysis), exercise physiology and trace element laboratories. Personal exercise prescriptions are prepared and exercise counseling services are also provided in the exercise physiology laboratory,
At the undergraduate level to contribute to the training of good physicians and health personnel with sufficient knowledge and skills in line with the needs of the society, having the ability to reach the right information and problem solving skills; adhering to ethical and deontological rules, with the ability to empathize, to produce and use information at a universal level and contribute to science;
